Also known as the King's Colors, the Union flag was adopted by King James VI of Scotland in 1606 as a combination of both the St. George flag of England and the St. Andrew flag of Scotland. The Union flag was brought to American when English settlers founded Jamestown, Virginia, in 1607 and was the most commonly used flag in the Colonies until the beginning of the American Revolution.
