At the signing of the Declaration of Independence and the formation of the Continental Army, no common flag existed for the armed forces. General Charles Lee proposed that every regiment should carry simple flags of solid color, "embroider'd with the word Liberty."
Eleven of these Liberty flags were captured by Hessian soldiers on August 26, 1776, during the Battle of Long Island. Their victory was short-lived as on December 26, 1776, George Washington crossed the Delaware and obliterated the Hessian forces in Trenton.
Printed on a red 100% pre-shrunk cotton Hanes Beefy-T shirt with durable double-stitch trim so its soft and comfortable yet strong. Shirts are not full cut - they do not run large.
