New York Cries in Rhyme
In the 1830's the streets of New York City echoed to the cries of street vendors offering a range of products and services. Many of these vendors were young children trying to earn enough to help their family to survive. Charcoal vendors, chimney sweeps, basket sellers and vendors of vegetables and hot foods all plied their trades in the streets of the City. This volume introduces the unique cries of twenty different kinds of urban workers. For each cry there is a half page woodcut and an explanation of the product or service being offered.

This small volume is a careful reproduction of a book for children first issued in New York City in 1835. Interesting insight into the early 19th century urban setting.

Paperback, 3 1/2 x 6 inches, 31 pages.
