The surrender of Lee's army at Appomattox signified the beginning of the end of the American Civil War. The paroles issued at Appomattox indicated the respect General Grant had for the Confederates as soldiers and fellow citizens.
The Appomattox Parole packet includes a facsimile of an original Appomattox Parole (front and back), a four-page pamphlet describing the history of the Civil War parole system, and the story of the Appomattox Parole itself. The pamphlet contains photographs of other significant Civil War paroles from Vicksburg, Port Hudson and Greensboro.
Packaged in a decorative cream envelope. Pamphlet size is 8 1/2 x 11 inches.
