Replica of the deed given to William Penn by King Charles II. As repayment of a loan, King Charles II granted William Penn a huge tract of land later named Pennsylvania after Penn's father. The founding of Pennsylvania, an area of about 40,000 square miles, was confirmed to William Penn under the Great Seal on the 5th of January, 1681.
